Brockton Villa's Crystal Anniversary Benefits Historical Society

Sharing 15 years of success

(October 31, 2006) - The building is the historically acclaimed 112-year old former beach cottage along the La Jolla Cove that was renovated 15-year's ago into the award-winning Brockton Villa Restaurant that will be celebrating its anniversary on Thursday, November 9th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and the La Jolla Historical Society is the beneficiary of the evening's proceeds.

"Since before Brockton Villa's eventual opening in 1991, Megan Heine and the La Jolla Historical Society have had a wonderful relationship," the Society's Executive Director John Bolthouse said. "We were honored to have been able to assist the Brockton Villa with research on their historically significant structure and are grateful for the opportunity to again partner with them on the great occasion of their fifteenth anniversary."

The anniversary party from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Brockton Villa Restaurant located at 1235 Coast Boulevard will include merriment, passed hors d'oeuvres, wine stations, raffles and special anniversary giveaways to the first 100 people who respond.

Constructed in 1894, the former beach cottage was built as a weekend retreat and then the primary residence of two other owners and named The Brockton Villa in honor of one owner's New England heritage in Brockton, Massachusetts. In the 1990's Gay and Bob Sinclair, who owned the Pannikin Coffee and Tea Company obtained the lease to this historic but somewhat dilapidated property in order to renovate it and adapt it for use as a restaurant. The Sinclair's had a strong commitment to preserving the community's architectural heritage, and had renovated and adapted old buildings for several of its locations. In 1993, Pannikin won the prestigious Orchid Award for Historic Preservation for its distinctive renovation of the Brockton Villa cottage. The Sinclair's daughter, Megan Heine, after learning about renovation and the business, took ownership of Brockton Villa Restaurant in 1994.

The Brockton Villa Restaurant is the proud recipient of many prestigious awards, including several Silver Fork Awards by San Diego Home/Garden Magazine and it remains a significant reminder of the architectural past alive in the La Jolla community; simple and lovely, blessed by the sea, the sand and the sun.

"The Historical Society is grateful to Brockton Villa for their continuing selfless spirit of community and philanthropy," Bolthouse said.
