(September 21, 2006) - Board president, Judy Haxo, is pleased to welcome three newly elected members to the La Jolla Historical Society Board of Trustees. The fourteen other members of the board warmly welcome:
Betty Vale, a La Jolla resident since 1970. A lifelong volunteer, Mrs. Vale has served on numerous community committees, chairing the Salk Institute's Symphony at Salk for ten years, and chairing the auction of the Bishop's School Parent's Association. Vale also supervised the garden and grounds renovation at St. James Episcopal Church and is presently works on the gardens at the Bishop's School.
Sidney A. Stutz, retired partner of Stutz, Artiano, Shinoff & Holtz law firm. Stutz has also volunteered as Board chair of the La Jolla Rotary Club (2004-2005), and served as board president of Home of Guiding Hands (2002-2004). Stutz's reasons for joining the La Jolla Historical Society board is the satisfaction of preservation of the past for the future.
And, stockbroker Roger P. Craig. A graduate of Harvard Law School Craig is a member of St. James by-the-Sea, the Athenaeum and the Timken Museum in Balboa Park. Craig hopes to contribute his time and interest to help the Society further its mission of historic preservation.
The mission of the La Jolla Historical Society is to preserve and interpret La Jolla's social, artistic, and cultural history by maintaining historic properties; collecting, exhibiting, and conserving artifacts and archival materials made, used, or associated with La Jolla; by making available to researchers its library collections; by initiation and working with special interest groups within the community to further specific collections, properties, and interests; by advocating the conservation and preservation of La Jolla's natural and built environment; by presenting educational programs; and by other means as may, from time to time, become appropriate.
The Society's offices and archives are located at 7446 Eads Avenue, La Jolla, in the 1909 beach cottage that was moved to its present location behind Wisteria Cottage in 1981. Open to the public Tuesday and Thursday's from noon to 4:00 p.m. (858) 459-5335. www.ljhs.org.
