Las Patronas grant will provide funds for archives
(December 20, 2007)--The La Jolla Historical Society is proud to announce it is a Fall 2007 grant recipient of Las Patronas, San Diego’s premier philanthropic organization.
This major grant will enable the Historical Society to create additional archival storage and shelving units along with fund equipment needed for digitization of the Society’s extensive still image collection. The funds for the grant will be generated from the 62nd Annual Jewel Ball, “Speakeasy,” scheduled for August 2, 2008.
“Las Patronas really sets the standard for community philanthropy in San Diego,” the Society’s Executive Director John Bolthouse said. “For the La Jolla Historical Society to be named as a Las Patronas grant recipient is a tremendous honor. The Society’s board of directors and staff are extremely grateful to be given this opportunity.”
Las Patronas is an all-volunteer philanthropic organization with a long history of giving. Since its inception in 1946, Las Patronas has donated more than $12 million to over a thousand charitable institutions in San Diego.
"Las Patronas is very proud to partner with the La Jolla Historical Society," said Speakeasy Chair Caroline Nierenberg. "We share a love for this community, and a mission to enhance life for all San Diegans, past, present and future."
The La Jolla Historical Society was founded in 1963 by a small group of community leaders and local citizens dedicated to preserving the community's rich heritage and culture. However, the work of the Society actually dates back to the late 1930s with the arrival in La Jolla of Howard S.F. Randolph,. a historian and genealogist from New England, who first started documenting the community’s unique heritage.
Las Patronas is committed to providing financial assistance to non-profit organizations throughout San Diego County that provide community services in the areas of health, education, social services and cultural arts. The group is highly regarded for its comprehensive grants process, which includes on-site visits to organizations requesting funds. Las Patronas raises funds throughout the year, which culminates with one the area’s most enduring philanthropic traditions, the annual Jewel Ball.
