Logo redesign updates Society's look
(January 4, 2007) - The La Jolla Historical Society has unveiled its first new logo in over two decades, paying homage to the historic Wisteria Cottage that will house the Society and its collection in the future. The new logo features key design elements that leverage the rich history and character of both the Society and La Jolla.
"At this key juncture in our history, the Historical Society recognizes the importance of reintroducing itself to the community with a fresh look," said Executive Director John Bolthouse. "The Board of Trustees and the staff are proud to be represented by a logo that reflects the unique identity of the Society. We believe the distinctive architectural character and seaside qualities of La Jolla come shining through with our new branding."
Designed by a local graphic artist working from archival and current photographs of the Cottage, the new logo incorporates archietectural componets that include a Craftsman-style window and part of the cobblestone wall of the former Scripps' guest residence, also characteristic of many other La Jolla structures.
The colors of the window frame represent the original black and green of the Wisteria Cottage's windows that will be repainted during the structure's restoration. A palm frond was added to symbolize the tropical flavor of the seaside community and the yellow tint to the window to portray warm sunlight - all common to La Jolla.
The La Jolla Historical Society is embarking on an exciting vision for its future, with plans to grow its public profile and raise funds to expand programs and restore Wisteria Cottage. Therefore, Bolthouse says, "Now is the time to reaffirm who we are, how much we are a part of the community, and how much the community is a part of us."
La Jolla's connection to its rich heritage, the La Jolla Historical Society's offices and archives are located at 7846 Eads Avenue, La Jolla. Open to the public Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (858) 459-5335. www.ljhs.org.
