(April 28, 2008) – The La Jolla Historical Society is proud to announce the upcoming release of La Jolla, a 127-page soft cover book featuring nearly 200 images from the Society’s extensive archives, many published for the first time! The book will retail for $19.95 and will be available at the Society office in addition to bookstores beginning in May.
Written by the Society’s historian, Carol Olten, and archivist, Heather Kuhn, the book features a comprehensive pictorial history of the village from its inception in the 1880s up through the start of the Second World War.
“Basically we are presenting a pictorial study of La Jolla history on a wide variety of subject matters, including architecture, pioneer citizens, the first commercial life of the village, etc.,” Olten said. “Also there are some quirky old photos of local characters, ranging from the ice cream man to Rags, the ever lovable La Jolla donkey.”
Come here stories of long-forgotten lore as Olten and Kuhn sign copies of their book at DG Wells Books, 7461 Girard Avenue in La Jolla on Saturday, May 3, 2008 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
