(September 17, 2009) – Leave it to the La Jolla Historical Society to create a really unique way to celebrate La Jolla’s past with repast by transforming an evening into a memorable movable feast in some of La Jolla’s most historical homes. Whether enjoying hors d'oeuvres in a timeless 1923 Spanish home in Bird Rock or an expansive California ranch home surrounded by spacious gardens, or dinner in a 1928 Mediterranean residence in the prestigious Barber Tract or one with a remarkable art collection overlooking the La Jolla Country Club, this is one of the organization’s more delectable fundraisers.
The Society’s second annual progressive dinner, Feasting on History, is set to begin at 5:30 pm on Saturday, September 26, 2009. As word spread about last year’s fun, the upcoming event quickly sold out. With people still clamoring to be included, the organizers added three additional homes thanks to gracious homeowners. The additional spaces were filled within a week.
Connie Branscomb, chair of the event said, “Feasting on History's popularity must be due to our bringing together La Jollans who share a common interest in the preservation of historic homes and who enjoy delicious food and lively conversation.”
The evening is set up following the progressive dinner format: guests dine with a different set of companions for hors d'oeuvres and entrée courses including special wines selected to accompany the individual meal, compliments of gourmand homeowners.
Not unlike the La Jolla Historical Society’s Secret Garden Tour the homes (and menus) are not disclosed prior to the event. However, two of the entrée hostesses provided a glimpse of what they’ll be serving. June Allen, will compliment her dinner with Moroccan bread known as Kisra or Khboz from the cookbook Couscous and Other Good Food from Morocco by Paula Wolfret. Guests at Carolyn Yorston Welcome’s home will start with her wildly popular Corn Soup.
The evening concludes with dessert and coffee by Girard Gourmet at the Historical Society’s landmark Wisteria Cottage.
